First: Mr David Duchovny was my very first crush, way back in my childhood years there really wasn't anyone more appealing than the erratic, true believer, little bit of a bad boy Agent Fox Mulder.
Second: If you grew up in the 90s, then you know you spent many sleepless nights, terrified to sleep because of something that happened on an episode of the X-files. Recently I asked the boy to name his most memorable/terrifying episode and believe it or not we both recall the same one: Darkness Falls. Featuring swarms of killer bugs that spin you into cocoons and kill you (recall the person who seeks shelter in a car only to have the bugs find their way in through the vents). Maybe it comes from growing up in black fly country (norther Ontario) or just the creepy crawly nature but this one surely stands out the most.
Third: When 'I Want to Believe' came out in 2008, I was thrilled, it had been so long since the end of the show in 2002, and you bet I rushed out to see the new movie. Was a mildly disappointed that this film featured no aliens sure, and I probably wasn't the only one as the film received mostly negative reviews. But I was happy to see Scully and Mulder together at last after the credits heading towards paradise.
So what do I want to Believe? That despite Duchovny's reps denying the rumours springing up all over the internet this week....That Mr. Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are in fact together in real life. Common, that really would be perfect right?
Either way, hopefully the buzz the rumours have generated might just be the best thing towards getting a 3rd movie produced soon.

Calgary Food Trucks : Taste the Trucks II
Yesterday I flocked, along with hundreds of other hungry Calgarians, to the Riverwalk in the East Village to experience the goodness that was YYC Taste the Trucks II.
Oh, and I wore my pinkest pants (H&M, the top too!).
The event ran from 1-6pm...and since I couldn't get out of the lab till 4, some things were sold out, but there was still plenty of good eating to go around.
First on my list was The Perogy Bozy, 'A gourmet mobile food truck, serving Eastern-European-inspired street food."
I got the Sauerkraut perogies, Sarah rocked the mexican ones. And they were both phenomenally good!
Of course we went and sat right on the edge of the Bow River, beautiful place to sit in the sun and eat, and the recent work on the Riverwalk, means it's better than ever to enjoy it!
But it was too hot to just eat hot food, so we also checked out Fiasco Gelato, a small batch artisan gelatiere, operating in Calgary since 2003. And let me tell you, these guys give Amato Gelato a run for their money.
I got the regular size, featuring a scoop of Watermelon Mint and a scoop of Zesty Lemon, and I had to eat fast to keep up with the melting in the sun, but no complaints from me about that!
That's all the space my stomach had for food, even tho my eyes and nose were screaming for more. So I have to give a shout out to the Fries and Dolls truck, that easily had the biggest line, and some of the best food smells.
Interested in tracking down any member of Calgary's fleet of food trucks, head over to YYC food truck locator where they google map track them at all times for you.
Now if anyone with a food truck is reading this....Please come to Foothills.....Please...please?
Hospital cafeteria food can only keep you alive.... it can't give you happiness.
Please bring us happiness.
Please.

5 Free Things to do in Calgary This Weekend
This weekend is one of my few weekends in town with absolutely no plans yet this summer.
Here's 5 great ideas of things to do (likely I'll end up doing none of them, getting drunk Friday night, being hung over all day Saturday and then working on my Research Proposal all day Sunday).
1. Friday Night Drive in Movies at Deerfoot Mall, Featuring the Lorax.
Movies start at 9:30 (it doesn't get dark till pretty late here) but they recommend coming early to park your car (West Lot) then grabbing dinner and coming back for the show. Family Friendly activities start at 7.
2. China Town Street Festival, Saturday Aug 11 from 10-8.
Like any good festivals this one is packed with live cultural entertainment, cultural themed vendors, great food (maybe I should pick up some King's this weekend?) and should be tones of fun.
3. Marda Gras Street Festival, Sunday Aug 12, from 10-5 in Marda Loop
Speaking of street festivals, Marda Loop as their annual Marda Gras fest this Sunday, pictures from the last couple years look like it should be a great time. What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than pretending you're in New Orleans.
4. Float in the River, all day any day
Even tho it's only supposed to hang out in the low 20s this weekend, I'd still suggest grabbing a raft and going for a float. Any time you can just be lazy in the sun is a good time in my book.
5. Head out to the mountains for some hiking, maybe Ha Ling Peak?
As long as the weather is going to be nice, but not boiling, hiking is always a go to in my book. I've had Ha Ling Peek (Formally Chinaman's Peek) in mind all summer... now if only I can talk the boy into a full day outing like that.
Anyways hope you enjoy you weekend where ever you are, because summer will be over before you know it!

Sparked my Pinterest 01
Chicago was an awesome time, despite the freak storm from nowhere that sent Lollapalooza goers seeking shelter and myself, my mom, aunt and cousin running down Michigan from Top Shop to the Avenue.
However, it was an exhaustingly quick trip, and being back in the lab (and for a looong day) today leaves me spending the rest of my evening frantically trying to 'organize my life' (as my mother would put it).
So, in the meantime, please enjoy some things that are sparking my Pinterest.

Hope you all enjoyed your August Long weekend... I can't believe September is right around the corner, and with it my first full year of grad studies! eeep!

What to do i n Chicago?
Tonight I will be in Chicago (Chi-town really?)....I'm only going for about 56hours....for my cousin's bachelorette party.
Now her idea of plans for the weekend consists of shopping, eating (smancy pants eating) and drinking.
As a result of a very 'grown up' Tuesday this week... I'm more interested in how much I can do for free.
Like going to see that silver jelly bean thingy (Cloud Gate?).
But if you've got any excellent ideas for me, please let me know! Otherwise enjoy your long weekends!

Uptown 17th - Galaxie Diner on 11th
Recently some friends and I finally went to check out this little diner....literally around the corner from my apartment.
Galaxie Diner - all day Calgary Breakfast.
And although we ate it at a normal breakfast time, I'd likely have to agree.
With it's 1950's retro aesthetic, and true diner set up you have to expect great things right? It is a bit tight inside, so expect a bit of a wait for a table during peak breakfast hours.
But once the food comes....soooo good, I had the french toast with bottomless hash browns. And don't forget to add grilled banana to it, and use lots of real maple syrup.
When I packed up the second slice, I got another huge scoop of hash browns to go as well, free!
Other menu highlights include:

Other menu highlights include:
- Calgary's only omelette of choice - get as many things in your omelette as you want
- Montreal Smoked Meat Hash - done up the way any good hash should be
- The breakfast burritos - two huge burritos for only $14 again with bottomless hash browns

Calgary Double Rainbow
Yesterday was all kinds of Crazy weather in true Calgary fashion.
27ish degrees in the afternoon, and sunny as you please.
Then around 6:30PM....yet another giant crazy hail storm! I rushed downstairs to back my car up so it would be fully protected under the building, and there was hail the size of marbles everywhere.
Luckily it was not as bad as the one in July 2010 which resulted in thousands of hail damaged cars (imagine the surface of a golf ball) and in a matter of minutes took out this roof at the University.
Shortly thereafter, around 7:15PM, as I was driving around the Brentwood area what did I see in the sky, why a double rainbow! Seriously, I was almost as excited as the guy in the video. Almost cried.
The crappy cell phone pic doesn't do it justice I know.
And a few hours later even, round 10:30PM, as I was driving home, why just your regular old fashioned heat lightning show over down town.
This was a recent lightning storm during Stampede, Photo taken by Midwinterphoto, check out his flickr here.
Anyways, it leaves me looking forward to a weekend in Chicago, and hopefully some more mild weather (even it is supposed to be super hot).
