What to Wear: On an Ice Cream Date

Aha! I am finally on top of my game enough to have a What to Wear ready this week. This time around, its for an Ice Cream Date! Which I actually went on this weekend!

This is a little outfit that I put together, trying to be fashionably current? I guess? Mainly what I am referring to is the matching of black combat style boots (from Spring) to a feminine looking dress (from H&M).

I picked up the dress for $15 bucks not too long ago, and way dying to wear int out!

I accessorized with some coral pink tights (because it's been pretty chilly here in Calgary lately) (also H&M) a cute belt (Aldo) and a layered necklace which I'll be featuring in a DIY-type post tomorrow!

The best part of doing a What to Wear on an Ice Cream Date? Eating the Ice Cream!

Or in this case Menchie's Frozen Yogurt! With all the toppings of course!

The rest of us are linked up over at Gypsy in Jasper! So feel free to join along! What would you wear out for Ice Cream?

popsicles!

I recently picked up an at home Popsicle mold thingy from ikea for a measly 2 bucks! I saw it and was overcome with memories of my mom making frozen yogurt pops in a similar one for my brother and I as kids.....I had to have it!
Naturally, I grabbed the pink one. I got home tho, and since I don't keep juice or flavoured yogurt in my fridge, filled it up with the next best thing. Sugar free poweraide! ahaha I know what you're thinking, not really the next best thing, but trust me, there's nothing better to have in your freezer after a run!

Here are some much more appealing homemade frozen treats than my 'sports pops'!

How about these fresh strawberry grapefruit, vodka pops! that's right, I said vodka! The recipe can be found here at EndlessSimmer.

Or, if like me you're a bit of a wino, how does a blackerry pinot noir pop sound? Recipe from bon apetit.

My recent trip to Cuba has left me craving Mojitos like you would not believe...why not in popsicle form? Recipe from the Tiffin Box.

Ok, maybe every good popsicle doesn't need the extra boozy kick. So why not these berry-mint pops! Recipe from the year in food.

And last, but certainly not least, who doesn't like cookies and cream? I might have to try these out for Kevin's upcoming birthday! Recipe from Just Baked.

What creative popsicles do you have up your sleeve? Have you ever tried making a poptail (as the boozed up ones are called)?

20Something Blogging Prompt: Do-overs

This week's 20Something Blogging Prompt is about Do-Overs. If you got one do-over in life, no questions asked, what would you choose to do over? Why? Now this, at least for me, is a harder question to answer than you may think. I am very happy with where I am in life and the people I have surrounded myself with that the idea of changing my past (and subsequently my present) just isn't appealing to me. So lets take this prompt from a lighter direction, hmmm?

Childhood me didn't know what was coming!

1. I would have had my parents keep tiny, kindergarten me in piano lessons. I am so musically challenged, and I would love to know how to play an instrument. Yes I could solve that by going out and taking lessons, but right now it'd just cost too much in terms of both time and money. It'd be much easier if I could go back in time and impart that knowledge upon childhood me!

2. Similarly... I would have stayed in swimming lessons a bit longer. I mean sure I probably wouldn't drown, but I'm still not a comfortable swimmer by any means. Also I wouldn't have let childhood me wear goggles to swimming lessons... mainly because to this day I still can't open my eyes under water.

3. I would take more pictures, period... and with me in them, not just of things! This goes for all the time, as I often carry my camera with me, but never remember to take it out of my purse.

4. I would have worn sun screen.

5. I would not have had that extra shot/beer funnel/keg stand.

But even if I can't go back and change those things, well that's alright.

If you could go back and do one thing differently, what would it be?

Sparked My Pinterest 04: Bathtubs in Bedrooms

Today's round of sparked my pinterest is a themed one:

Bathtubs in Bedrooms

I love to take a bubble bath, with a book, and candles and a glass of red wine. But let's be honest my tiny, windowless apartment bathroom is not exactly the most relaxing environment. So I've been day dreaming, and pinning bathtubs in bedrooms! enjoy!

And since pinterest has changed the way they let you embed pins.... apparently destroying some of my old posts along the way, I'm going to have to do this the old fashioned way and link back to the original source!

This bedroom, with low rise bed and clawfooted tub is spa-like! source

I could imagine that the master bath might be just off to the left of this gorgeous tub! source

The black painted tub, along with that chandelier are the perfect additions to what I can only assume is a massive walk in closet! source

You could soak all day in a tub this deep, and next to a fire place no less! source

The beachy view from this shell like tub make me wish I was in the tropics on vacation. source

And I suppose that if I can't have a tub in my bedroom, I mean it is a little impracticable right? I'd settle for a hot tub like this one on a bedroom patio, no? source

Furry Animal Fun Time

Every so often, I hop onto the Calgary Humane Society Page or Kijiji, and browse through all of the adorable puppies and kittens up for adoption. This is a terrible thing for me to do, because of course I can't have one of my own right now. Traveling as often as I do, my overfull erratic school schedule, not to mention my lease doesn't allow it, I have to settle for what I can get. Stopping to pet the puppies at the pet store every time I go by the mall, hoping the neighbourhood wandering cat we affectionately named Gregory shows up at Kevin's more often, and petting other peoples dogs when they take them for walks.

But most importantly, every time home I get to visit my own dog Flurry, as well as my furred cousins. So here's some cuteness overload.... or at least in my opinion it is!

Featuring Flurry the old white bichon, Sadie the new puppy, Mr. Molly the handsome cat and Jovi the lab!

Hello Blog its Been a While

Today is a good day....and that's saying a lot for a monday, especially one which is raining, which is following a weekend when my credit card apperntly went to Hong Kong without me and which is following a night when I didn't get to sleep until 1:30 due to the apparent domestic going on in the ally behind my building.

But today is a good day, mainly because for the first time in weeks and weeks... months and months really I am not rushing towards some deadline, or a flight somewhere, or a major meeting.

Flying into the Sault in an Air Canada Jazz Turbo Prop

For the last 3 months, I have packed myself up, had Kevin drive me to the airport, and flown off to some other destination (Cuba, Boston and most recently Ontario). The travel has been for work, vacation, and to visit family. All of it has gone great, and I can't say that I don't truly enjoy it, but lately it has felt like time is flying buy, and I don't know what month it is let alone even what day of the week it is. The time I am back in the lab in between jet setting has been filled with sytematically working my way through pressing checklists, and every weekend it seems like we have someone else's birthday to celebrate.

The view from my hotel in Toronto, and a self photo of me in confrence clothes, which I had honest intentions of posting last Thursday for What to Wear: "your power outfit".

But finally I have a break from it all. In 18days I have my candidacy exam, and you might call me crazy to hear me say that right now I am considering studying for the biggest exam of my academic career to be a break. But really, in  a way it is. I have only the one deadline, and having moved myself up out of the lab and into a private study room, nothing pressing to do other than study, and take breaks from studying...for 18 whole days!

Sitting in this little library office today, I feel more relaxed than I have been since I was on the beach in Cuba. Sure this feeling will fade, only to be replaced with stress and axiety as my exam date rolls closer, but for now I am going to savour it.

How do you keep from being too busy? From doing too much? What surprising things make you feel relaxed?
